• The Ugly Duckling (original): - It all started with a fantasy sketch of a swan (the one in the foreground) that I became very fond of, perhaps it is rooted in an old "sin". In my 20s, I made a painting called "The Depressing Swan". God knows where it is today. To emphasize the vulnerability of my tail, I placed it closest to the viewer, surrounded by two other, beautiful swans – one of which even dives to avoid confronting it. With the swan placed in a leading position, I also want to convey the message that appearance does not matter and that you should always be yourself, regardless. Then as I stood there, with what I thought was a finished painting, I had an inspiration - I wanted something more to happen in the picture. The white color that seems to run down the painting therefore became the icing on the cake and symbolizes what I think about the discussion around bullying; it should be erased and redundant. Unique original in acrylic and oil - one copy only Tony Nilsson's creative process is about following instinct over logic and just letting creativity flow; a process of experiments and questions that are adapted to the self, where the forms are guided by feelings that are expressed and take place.
