Lila Tiffany New York - Photograph Lila Tiffany outside Carnegie Hall in New York in 1967. Leif-Erik Nygård's studio was located in Carnegie Hall, which in the 60s was a melting pot for creative talent. Famous tenants crowded here, including Lee Strasberg's famous Actors studio, fashion designers, musicians, dancers and writers. Many of the apartments were small, cheap studios with shared bathrooms and kitchens, and one of the tenants was former circus performer Lila Tiffany. Every day she sat outside Carnegie Hall with her accordion and played for people passing by, always with her little chihuahua, the money she saved under the mattress. One of the famous tenants was Judy Garland who often stood and chatted with the elevator guys. When Leif-Erik Nygårds asked if he could photograph her, she always politely answered yes, but it never happened. Leif-Erik Nygårds decided to portray Lila Tiffany instead. - I'm so glad I photographed her. At the end when she was too tired to carry her accordion, she played the harmonica instead.
