• After the attack – sparrow hawk: - There is a thought or story behind pretty much all of my paintings, says the artist Lars Fredholm. Lars tells us about the painting After the attack – the sparrow hawk: Quickly, purposefully and without warning it strikes. Most attacks, the element of surprise notwithstanding, end without any loot being dropped. The hunts that the sparrow hawks do here at home around the farm and that I become a spectator to, usually take place in late autumn and winter. Then it attacks around the bird feeder where tits, finches and thrushes etc gather. This watercolor came about on an autumn day when the sparrow hawk dived among the willow finches at the feeder just outside our living room window. The hunt ended happily for the finches but less successfully for the hawk, which chose to sit low in a nearby bush where I could study it for a couple of minutes.
